Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Bargstädt (1955) is Senior Professor of Construction Management and Construction Methods at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta (USA). He then completed postgraduate studies at the Institut Supérieur du Béton Armé, Marseille (France) with a Diplóme d’ISBA. After completing his doctorate in engineering (in structural engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig), he worked as a construction and project manager and ultimately managed the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern branch and later the Northern Directorate of Philipp Holzmann AG for several years. During this time, he also set up certified quality management systems for projects and his own branch office.
He was appointed university professor at the end of 1999. In 2012/2013, he was a visiting professor at the National Taiwan University and in 2020 at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Vietnam.
Bargstädt has been involved in numerous accreditations of study programmes in Germany and abroad as a peer review report as well as on expert committees and accreditation commissions, and has been involved in evaluations of study programmes (e.g. the Franco-German higher education institutions) and scientific fields (e.g. on behalf of the German Council of Science and Humanities).
He was a member of the DFG Review Board 410 Civil Engineering and Architecture for 8 years. From 2017 to 2018, he was Chairperson of 4ING, the umbrella organization of the Faculty Days of Engineering and Computer Science at Universities.
On December 18, 2020, Professor Bargstädt was elected Chairperson of the Accreditation Council. He took office on 27.01.2021.
