Prof. Dr. Martin Ullrich (1971) is Professor of Interdisciplinary Music Research with a focus on Human-Animal Studies at the Nuremberg University of Music. He studied piano (Diploma in Music Education) at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and the Berlin University of the Arts, as well as music theory and aural training, also at the Berlin University of the Arts, and subsequently obtained a doctorate in musicology. In 2005, he was appointed Professor of Music Theory at the Berlin University of the Arts. From 2009 to 2017, Prof. Dr. Ullrich was President of the Nuremberg University of Music and from 2011 to 2017 Chairperson of the Rectors’ Conference of German Music Universities in the HRK.
He is particularly interested in the role of music and sound in the interdisciplinary context of human-animal studies. His research interests also include the music of Robert Schumann and the relationship between music and digitality, particularly with regard to artificial intelligence and artificial creativity.
From 2011 to 2017, Martin Ullrich was a member of the ACQUIN Accreditation Commission. In 2020, 2021 and 2023, he was involved in concept accreditation, institutional accreditation and state university system assessment procedures as an expert appointed by the German Council of Science and Humanities. Martin Ullrich has been a member of the Accreditation Council since 2018 and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education since 2022 and deputy spokesperson since 2023.
