Stefani Sonntag studied history, German and Eastern European studies in Mainz, Bielefeld, Edinburgh (Scotland) and Wrocław (Poland) after training and working as a bank clerk for three years. From 2004 to 2018, she was Faculty Managing Director at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), where she was also Chairperson of the Academic Staff Council from 2006 to 2018. Since March 2018, she has been working as a higher education policy officer for the Board of the Education and Science Trade Union.
